What do we do
in the face of our ocean's pollution?
What's the most powerful thing that can be done?
I've a bumper crop of
stickers from environmental organizations I belong to, but the battles
to preserve and protect our world and it's oceans are many. And at times
I've felt woefully overwhelmed, to the point of hopelessness.
Yet when I'm patient and courageous,
when I'm willing to sit with the fear and apathy, I get a different reply,
a reply that fills me with peace. I'm not sure
if it's from the dolphins, the whales, or the ocean itself.
It tells me to be still and relax. It tells me that, in the grand
scheme of things, everything's alright. As I surrender my struggle to
this greater peace, I'm shown the infinite ways water blesses us.
Water, the little H2O molecule that sustains all living things, has cycled through
our lives for eons. The waters within us are the waters Buddha bathed
in, the seas whales swam in, the rivers our elders drank from. Its the same water once cried as tears, the amniotic sack we grew in, the
rains that cooled us last summer.
Imagine what happens as we give
our blessings to the water in return - honoring it as it passes
through our lives; in our drinking, washing, bathing. Recognizing
the divine spark it carries within it, thanking it, energizing it,
blessing it. Perhaps this is all our world has ever needed, our loving
gratitude.
Surely the waters receive our blessing, carrying it
onward in it's endless cycle of wetness. Such a simple way to bring more
light into the world!
