Bimini Flight Info
You are responsible for your own flight to and from Bimini. Please be aware that the flight info below is subject to change. The most direct way to Bimini, (airport code BIM), from the US is through the Ft. Lauderdale International Airport, (airport code FLL), in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida . There are several commercial airlines from Florida to Bimini, each with their own schedule.
Our program typically begins with a light lunch around 1 pm on the afternoon of the first day and ends after breakfast on the last scheduled day of our program. You can schedule your return flight anytime after this.
Continental, www.continental.com , 1-800-523-3273, 800-231-0856, has daily flights from FLL to Bimini that average from $230 - $290 round trip. Their flights typically leave Ft. Lauderdale at 10 am, arriving in Bimini at 10:30 am (please confirm). If you want to book your Bimini flight with Continental, you may need to arrive in Ft. Lauderdale the night before. (Below is hotel info for Ft. Lauderdale). Continental is one of the simplest, most reliable carriers to book your Bimini flight with.
Lynx Air, www.lynxair.com, 954-772-9808, has an evolving schedule. they typically fly Wed, Fri, Sat & Sundays to Bimini from Ft. Lauderdale International Airport. Lynx has $200 roundtrip specials, as well as a generous 50 lb luggage allowance. , Get directions More information »
Bimini Island Air, (BIA), http://www.flybia.com , 954-938-8991, has daily flights to Bimini. Their tickets average $280 to $300 round trip. BIA flies out of Executive Airport, which is a hard-to-find 30 minute, $30+ dollar cab ride north of the main Ft. Lauderdale airport. BIA has a well earned reputation for delaying flights and have a small, 30 lb luggage allowance. As a result they are one of my last choices.
Charter Planes: There are also a number of charter planes you can arrange to get flights with. Call us for more details.
Coordinating your Flights
You may be able to coordinate your flights to get to and from Bimini from your home city in the same day, if your Florida to Bimini carrier has afternoon flights. If you book your flight into FLL from your home airport early in the day, you may be able to book your Bimini flight in the afternoon, omitting the need to spend a night in Florida.
Our trip ends on the last day after breakfast. You can schedule your return flight from Bimini to Florida anytime, depending on which airline you choose. If your Bimini flight leaves the island at 11 am, for example, (as the Continental flight usually does), I would schedule your return flight out of FLL at 2 pm at the earliest, to leave time for clearing customs, etc. Clearing US Customs usually only takes 10 minutes, unless you get behind a big jet from overseas.
Hotels - If your travel plans include a night in Ft. Lauderdale, there’s an infinite variety of hotels to choose from, based on convenience, budget and location. Some have a shuttle to the airport. You can also get a hotel on the beach, or the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel. I’ve recommended a number of hotels over the years, and find that they keep changing prices and specials. The Sleep Inn & Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport, 800-346-8357, has rooms for $70 a night and includes a shuttle. I think www.hotels.com and www.travelocity.com are two simple ways to find what you’re looking for.
Travel Insurance - Travel insurance is always recommended. It is a personal choice. You can buy insurance to cover your trip and travel expenses in case of a change in plans.
